What is the cold war?
The Cold War followed shortly after WW2, lasting for 45 years. It started after the two newest super powers, America and the Soviet Union began clashing interest of Capitalism vs. Communism. Stalin also held a grudge against the Allies for waiting to open a front of defense during WW2, which could have saved some of the 20 million Russian soldiers at the time. America had feared the threat of Communism for a long time, as proven by the first Red Scare during the 1920s, and later by the second in the 1950s. America wanted to try and “contain” Communism, and in doing so, caused an “iron curtain” to descend across Europe. |
