Why nuclear warfare was significant in the cold war.
Nuclear Warfare caused major tension throughout many different countries as well of start off smaller wars or standstills. Many discoveries and breakthroughs in science and technology was found due to the investigations of nuclear technology from space travel to new forms of war. Nuclear Warfare also created a need to have some peace movement throughout some countries even in the United States. The columns below show four different things that deal with nuclear warfare that started off during the cold war.

Creation Of The United Nations
The United Nations was formed to keep peace and help prevent war between countries. One of the reasons they were formed was because of all the nuclear breakthroughs. They really didn't like the idea that one country had the power to blow up the earth so the United Nations was created to help solve any major conflicts.

Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban missile crisis was one of the major things that created tension and almost set off a huge war between the United States and the Soviet Union. Cuba who had been allies with the United States began to make links with the Soviet Union. Then the United States tried to invade Cuba but it ended in defeat. The Soviet Union then gained the idea to place missiles in Cuba to deter and future invasions. Much like how the United states placed missiles in Turkey and Italy in case of a Soviet Union invasion. The United States created a blockade around Cuba but called it a quarantine since a blockade was an act of war. The United Nations was soon brought into the conflict and removed the missiles from Cuba if the United States swore not to invade Cuba.

Nuclear Anxiety
Nuclear anxiety caused many different reactions. Most places choose to find ways to protect themselves against nuclear attacks. These tactics lead to the construction of bunker-like rooms at the lower levels of houses, most of them underground. These kind of rooms became the norm for most houses during the time of the cold war since the threat of nuclear explosions were eminent.

Space Programs
Sputnik was one of the first object that was sent into space and was a major breakthrough in science. This deals in with nuclear warfare because it helped to advance the studies that were necessary to launch such things into space.

H-BombHydrogen bomb or H-bomb, weapon deriving a large portion of its energy from the nuclear fusion of hydrogen isotopes. The significance about the H-Bomb is the power it had behind it. When another country has access to things that can destroy you it feels like a person holding a loaded gun to your stomach and taunting you. It shouldn't kill right away if the person shoot but you will slowly bleed to death if not helped or aided in some way. I think it is a part of the cold war, because while H-Bombs were not shot off in the name of the war it still played a huge part of tension between countries.
