On Dec. 23rd, 1948, The Japanese war criminals, including Hideki Tojo, as well as 6 other high rank officials in WW2 were executed in Tokyo. *Liberty & Order delivered in Germany & Japan: During the occupation of Japan, Americans gave/restored liberty to the citizens by allowing them to own their own land & adapt a democratic outlook for schooling. America also changed the Japanese gov. to give more power to the people, but they kept strict authority over media and other areas. During America's occupation of Germany, the Americas created order through breaking down and replacing the German gov. with a Democratic system, also creating more liberty for the people. |
Berlin Crisis:Escape?
To escape from East Germany during the Airlift, one would have to get over the wall. But since there's armed guards, it makes the plan quite tricky to finish. One could possibly escape, but it would require large amounts of planning, skill, and luck. Berlin Wall = concrete canvas? The Berlin Wall was referred to as canvas of concrete as on both sides citizens put numerous amounts of graffiti. As a form of protesting. |
CIA Covert Wars:Summary with examples:
The reason the U.S. C.I.A. went into different areas was to establish order and liberty among other countries such as Iran, Guatemala, and almost Cuba. They put American people in charge as an effort to keep foreign affairs going their way, and weren't afraid to resort to bribes, intimidation, propaganda, and violence to achieve it. |
Vietnam War:

McCarthyism:
|
How U.S got involved:
At first the U.S supported France by giving them money to defeat the rebels, but Ho chi Minh won the north half of Vietnam. The North of Vietnam became Communist, and raided the anti-communist South, but the U.S. supported them with money and advisers. After the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution passed, the U.S. could use military force in Vietnam and sent bombers and later around 184,000 troops in 1965. By 1968, the U.S. sent around 500,000 troops to Vietnam. Who the Vietminh supported, right to support him, & what did they ask for? The Vietminh supported Ho Chi Minh of the Communist party. They had the right to choose him since at the time he was offering freedom over starving to death. The Vietminh were 'asking' to become independent from France. What quantitative data did you notice and what is significant? The most troops sent anywhere during this time period were to East Asia or Europe. The deadliest day of Vietnam was the Tet Offensive; 245 deaths. The bloodiest year was 1968 with 16,592 deaths. Over 900 troops died on their first day in 'Nam. More than 1,400 troops died on their Departure Day. The Vietnam memorial cost 8.4 million or 18.7 million today, and all funds were private, no federal funds were used. The Vietnam memorial signal for MIA and found alive has never been used. |
Define McCarthyism:
McCarthyism is a term used to describe political slander, which McCarthy was extensively known for using. One example used in one of McCarthy's speeches was, "Even one Communist is one Communist too many." *How was diversity & civic duty significant to this time for America? Civic duty and diversity were significant as during this time, many people didn't want any diversity. Diversity at that time meant you were a Communist, which could incur ridicule or wrath from others.Civic duty was important because many people took that civic duty meant exposing any Communists in America, even if they weren't in order to protect America's ideals. One example could be, "You know, I never liked Bob. He's too nice, and he still hasn't returned my lawn mower. That's it! Bob's a Communist! Look out guys Bob's a Communist! someone take him away he's trying to spread Communism!" |
